The rationale behind the elements comprising Memortrees was to inspire the visitor to participate in sharing their sacred selves. To achieve this... specific elements & concepts were incorporated, even though the details of some may not be immediately evident to the visitor. The belief is that the energy was there and sensed/experienced at some level. The following gives an explanation behind what the various elements represent as well as why they were there in the first place.

THE TREES:

There are 13 metal trees in a circle as a means of representing “Time” via the 13 moons cycles in a single year. Each tree has been cut from a 5’ x 8’ sheet of aluminum where the 5x8 rectangle was chosen by it being a “golden rectangle”. Golden rectangles related to sacred geometry and I encourage you to look into the Golden Mean and Fibonacci Numbers. They are fascinating examples of the role sacred geometry and mathematics play in the natural word and this is something that we intentionally included in the making of Memortrees. Collectively, the trees accommodate 2,012 leaves, which speaks to the Mayan Calendar of my belief that global consciousness is involved in this time coming). 12 of the trees are exposed, natural aluminum.

THE BLACK TREE:

There is a single tree, black in color {not visible above as it was placed as the 7th / middle tree of the circle and is immediately behind the structure}, and contains on it’s branches a single, blank leaf. This tree represents the “Black Sheep” and of celebrating this as the quest for each person to find their own voice and own song to which to dance. Our culture uses this metaphor to discourage this and this tree aims to redefine and celebrate it! The one blank leaf speaks to the belief that every Present Moment presents us with a blank leaf upon which we are activating, and the lack of any other leaves on the tree represent the notion that when we are activating, other previous leaves need not factor in to what we activating in the Present Moment.

THE STRUCTURE:

The central structure in the center of the trees is in the shape of a pentagon with walls that are also 5x8 golden rectangles. This structure represents the Present Moment with the two flags flying from its roof, also 5x8 golden rectangles, representing the Past {made from second-hand clothing} and the Future {blank canvasses upon which we manifest}.

THE CASTS:

Amidst the trees and structure are three plaster casts which represent the three connections that comprise any Earthly/physical experience: Connection to Self, Connection to Other, & Connection to Spirit. Any “memory” activated touches on these connections, and thinking about reality in this way brings a new level to the lives we are leading.

INSIDE THE STRUCTURE {IMAGES & AUDIO}:

Inside the structure, the walls are covered with hundreds of personal images people submitted in response to the request for images that give them great joy as a means of helping to create a sacred space. The floor is covered wall-to-wall with oriental carpets and pillows of various size and fur-covering. In the center of the space is a low-to-the-ground table, also in the shape of a pentagon. The center of the table contains a pentagon opening which is filled with man-made magnolia leaves. A 2+ hour audio loop plays inside the structure, comprised of people recording future memories in between ambient and nature tracks intended as times for personal reflection and leaf writing. There is a band of plexi running around the middle of the structure in addition to some LED string lights which both illuminate the structure at night. Electricity for the lights and audio supplied by solar panel.

After declaring a memory on one of the leaves, the visitor is invited to attach their leaf to one of the 12 trees outside the structure via a brad clip attached to the leaf that goes through a slit on a tree branch. Anyone now reading a leaf will further activate that person’s evolution. Prayer flags of the human variety!
